It stuck in my mind quite a few times a day that I need to get back to blogging however to sit with my fingers on to keep from typing what I was thinking took some time for the lazy me.
As every year this year to we planned for a family outing to Alleppey (Allappuzha), this time I had a few friends also joining who wanted to visit Kerala. Gosh! The thought itself was fascinating, the planning went for over a month and still the last minute hitches were unavoidable. My friends had initiated the plan with a white lie to their parents that they were to attend a friend’s wedding. Updates of the illusory descriptions of the wedding to the anxious parents were all the more entertaining and covered the entire journey like ads in a television at regular intervals.
It was a 3 days plan, of which first day was spent at home, we had a view of the woods, an introduction to my family members, had a look at the strange pets my aunt had, a visit to our parish church and of course a photo session.
The next day we were all prepared for alleppey, The plan was to start at 9:00 AM in the morning to alleppey and on the way to halt at kumarakom, As planned a group of young, old and children all singing and dancing and in their high spirits set of for the exciting journey. Realized a day out and the sight of the peaceful seas, the singing birds overwhelm everyone alike. At 10 AM we reached Kumarakom, We enjoyed an hour boating in the Vembanad Lake, sight of a few species of birds and were off to shores to continue with the adventures planed for the day. On the way we were flabbergasted at the sight of the beautiful paddy fields, the coconuts trees lined up, the ducks sailing, the scenic beauties of the backwaters and lagoons of Vembanad, Kuttanad, Alleppey and Kottayam districts. At noon we had our lunch (biryani's) at a restaurant near alleppey. The lunch wasn't that great as the Hyderabad Biryani's from paradise... kind off managed...
We reached alleppey beach in the late afternoon, the sight of the sand dunes traveling with the winds was fascinating to speculate. We played in the waters in the hot sun till our skins tanned in the heat. Kadal palam a pier which extends to the seas distinctly identifies alleppey beach from the rest. It now stands as a mere skeleton as most of it is damaged in the tsunami. There's a beautiful garden on the sea shore, where we spent the evening under the shades of trees, peddling boats and eating. We were all exhausted at dusk and were on our foot’s back home. On returning we found we didn’t return empty handed we carried a lot of sand with us from the shores. And finally it was time for us to wrap up our baggage and head of to our destination. Train journeys are also wonderful when you go as a group. It was indeed a memorable trip.
